    information about opiate addiction

    By | April 2, 2009

-Opiates are physically addictive, that means the body begins to actually require them to function normally once a person has become addicted.

-Heroin is a very addictive opiate, but opium, oxycontin, vicodin, norco, codeine, etc. can also be extremely addictive opiates

-Detoxing from opiates can be a more painful process than detoxing from alcohol or amphetamines. it’s associated with extreme nausea and other physical symptoms - a professional detox facility should always be used.

-Some opiates found in pill form are accompanied with varying amounts of other drugs like acetominophen, which can be very detrimental to liver function if taken in excess.

-Even when a medical doctor prescribes opiates for pain control, a risk of addiction exists if a patient begins to take increasingly large doses.
